Kantara ibomma: Sandalwood perfume is blowing across the country today. In 1847, a Kannada king was troubled with unrest no matter how many pleasures he had. He wanders the forest in search of happiness. He sees a stone that the tribesmen there consider divine. Seeing it gives him solace. He gives them a forest part of his kingdom as a gift to get the stone that they measure as a god. After a hundred years, the king’s heir tries to get back those lands worth crores and fails.
They believe that Lord Varaha will protect the forest and their home. And the current story takes place in 1990. Shiva (Rishabh Shetty), a tribal, clashes with forest officer Murali (Kishor) who wants to demarcate the forest area. The king’s successor, Dora, sided with the tribesmen and warned the government officials to stay in check. But how did Shiva get to know the nobility like Gomukha Vyaghram? How did he have an eye-opening in him who was indifferent to the traditional tribal fair? What happened to the nobles who saw the rift between the government officials and the tribals? That is the rest of the story.
Starting the story from the time of the kings, director Rishabh Shetty brought it to 1990 with ease. The key to this story is the change in Shiva who is not interested in accepting his father’s legacy. Also, the manner in which Mekavanne Puli-like Dora Laguttu is put out is interesting. As much as it is appropriate for the government authorities to protect the forest area, it is a fact that the tribals have all the rights over the forest!
But when they see that some miscreants want to occupy the forest after deceiving them, the government and the locals have to turn together. Their end is to be seen. The same topic is shown in this movie. The director tried to say that even God does not ignore those who stand in the way between the forest and the tribals. When the authorities respect the traditions of the tribals, they also follow the instructions of the authorities. It is a matter of mutual understanding. Otherwise, if the power is in the hand, the consequences will be severe. The director said this without saying it.
Rishabh Shetty, who started his career as a director with the film ‘Rikki’, showed his ability with ‘Kirak Party’. In the meantime, he has acted as an actor in a few films, and now he has played the role of Shiva in ‘Kantara’. Although the entire first half was entertaining, he spellbound the audience with his performance when the flag-off scene came to a close.

PS Mitran’s mark detailing is also seen in the action scenes. The highlight is connecting the dialogue to the climax which is not even mentioned anywhere in the film.
Background music by GV Prakash Kumar is a big plus point for this movie. Jeevee took the action and emotional scenes to the next level. Reuben’s editing should have been sharper. Some scenes in flashback can be trimmed. The cinematography by George C. Williams is impressive. You can tell by looking at the visuals that Prince Pictures has made this film without any expense spared.
And when it comes to actors… the role of Sardar is really a challenge for Karthi. Karthi is seen in many getups in this. It’s hard to find time for makeup for all the getups. Anudeep, who made the movie Jati Ratnalu without any seriousness and got a super hit, followed the same tempo in this movie too. He tried to lead the whole movie with complete comedy without any seriousness or logic. Generally, when it was announced that this movie is being made by Telugu producers under the direction of Anudeep, it was thought that it would be a bilingual movie, but watching the movie, one gets doubts that they have shot it entirely in Tamil and dubbed it in Telugu.
Also, taking the background of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry seems to have been taken as a base, but it doesn’t seem to have been logically synced to Andhra Pradesh. The director failed to establish where the French colonies in Andhra Pradesh were in Krishnazilla. Fantasy ideas like these will appeal to anyone. Seems universal. So this idea worked out well in Telugu as well.
The feel-good factor throughout the movie is a big plus for ‘Ori Devava’. Most of the scenes are enjoyable. In some places, comedy is well worked out in this movie… Emotions are ripe. Otherwise, the slow narration causes a feeling of boredom here and there. Although the twists and turns in the story seem new, before and after them, the film feels like a routine.
The first half of the story revolves around a guy who says yes to marrying a friend who has grown up with him since childhood. The difficulties faced by the hero in the toilet commode factory run by his uncle are hilarious. Most of the entertainment in the first half is those scenes. Differences of opinion between husband and wife.. quarrels.. misunderstandings.. and then going to court for divorce.. all this is a normal affair.
And what surprises the audience in the first half is the fantasy angle. Venky is a modern-looking god. Vishwaxen’s buzz with Rahul Ramakrishna as his assistant is impressive. The interlude twist about God giving the second chance to the hero increases the curiosity.
Ori Devuda
Some of the scenes that follow the hero’s efforts to go back in life and change his life seem crazy. The episode which seems to be the highlight of the entire movie comes in the second half. In the context of the heroine’s father whom she understands differently.. the emotion in it will move the audience. The director has designed these scenes which are very heartfelt.
But here the movie takes an emotional turn and keeps the audience in the same mood till the end. After the realization starts coming in the hero.. every scene runs in the same way. The audience will get an idea of how the story will go till the end. Raanu Raanu Melo Drama has increased.. the movie is running too slowly. But it’s a plus that no scene feels bad.
Everything is fine but the chemistry between the lead pair does not seem to work out anywhere. The downside is that the audience did not have a strong desire to meet them. But the slow-running movie ends with a bit of fun. Overall, ‘Ori Devdava’ is not a match for time-pass entertainment. Emotions..comedy is well worked out. It doesn’t feel like wow but.. this is an ‘okay’ movie.
Actors:
Vishwaxen is a good performer, nothing new to say. After ‘Ashokavanamo Arjuna Kalyanam’ he looked completely different in this film. It feels like a tailor-made role for him. He easily fits into the role of Arjun, a modern youth. Not only in the scenes showing frustration as an average husband struggling with his wife, but also in the emotional scenes, he impressed. Mithila Parker looks like an average girl rather than a heroine.
She acted well as per the role. Another heroine is Asha Bhatt. Murali Sharma shines in the pivotal role. He showed his experience. Victory Venkatesh impressed in a crucial cameo role, even though it was only seen for a short time. He gives good cheer to the audience. Rahul Ramakrishna also gives a good josh as Venky’s assistant. Venkatesh Kakumanu is okay as the hero’s friend.

Aswat Marimuthu continued for the Telugu version with the technicians who worked for Matrika.
