Cobra

Cobra Movie Review: Chiyan Vikram starrer much-awaited movie Cobra was released in theaters today 31st August after several postponements. It has already been revealed in the trailer that Vikram is once again seen in different getups. It has been a long time since Vikram’s movies hit and all his recent films have not fared well at the box office.

But his recent OTT release Mahaan was considered a hit and the audience was excited to see Vikram’s performance as Mahan Gandhi. As his new movie Cobra is now running in theatres, let’s check out the detailed review of this movie to know if it can be seen in theatres.

The Story

Mathi works as a mathematics teacher in the city and leads a very ordinary life. On the other side of the story, multiple crimes take place in the city and after a thorough investigation, the police department does not find a single clue. What is Mati, who works as a mathematician, related to the crimes happening in the city, who is Bhavana, and how did the police officer Aslan deal with this case, to know the answer to these questions, you have to watch the movie completely.

Ravikumar, Roshan Mathew, Anandraj, Robo Shankar, Mia George, Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindarajan are playing other important roles. How about the movie Cobra?

Although the story of this movie is very simple, Cobra starts off interestingly as it is narrated with a non-linear screenplay, which keeps you guessing what will happen next in the story. A few moments in the first half of the film engage us and the interval scene adds to the interest. But later half of the film it loses track and becomes more predictable.

Some action scenes in the last part of the movie are pleasing. To know the significance of Vikram’s hallucination point and different looks in the film, you have to watch the movie in theaters and we don’t want to spoil your excitement by revealing everything in this review.

Chiyan Vikram once again proves why everyone admires him for his versatility when it comes to acting. The makeup of his multiple getups is not impressive in some frames, but with Vikram’s performance, we completely forget these minor flaws. Srinidhi Shetty seems okay in her limited role.

Cricketer Irfan Pathan is seen in an important role and he manages to pull off his role in some scenes, but his inexperience can be seen in some other scenes. Roshan Mathew impresses with his performance in the negative role. Robo Shankar makes us laugh in some scenes. Mrinalini Ravi and other actors have done their roles well as required.

Technically Cobra is good. Music director A.R. Rahman composed beautiful songs in this movie, but the song ‘Tarangini’ remains my favorite song. One of the major highlights of the film is the background music by Rahman, which elevates the scenes as much as they need to and seems apt with the emotions on screen.

Harish Kannan’s cinematography is good but not entirely satisfying, the scenes shot in foreign locations look great on screen. The production values are good, but the movie team seems to have paid a bit more attention to the VFX. The fights composed by Dilip Subbarayan will surely attract the mass audience.

Ajay Gnanamuthu, who had earlier given Demant Colony and Anjali CBI, has partially succeeded in entertaining the audience this time. Although there is nothing new in the storyline of the movie, he has somehow hooked the audience with the screenplay.

Overall, Cobra is interesting to watch in parts and seems to hold up well when compared to Chiyan Vikram’s last few theatrical releases.

  • Chian Vikram
  • Music, BGM
  • Fights

Minus Points:

  • Some predictable scenes
  • VFX
