Scream 6, Neve Campbell tackles the burning issue of wages: "If I were a man they wouldn't have offered me that amount"

After 25 years in the horror franchise, Neve Campbell will not be returning to Scream 6. The reason is the salary, which is considered too low.

“If I were a man, they would never have offered me that amount.” With these words, Neve Campbell explains why he will not be in Scream 6, after 25 years in the famous horror franchise with large numbers. The absence of the actress is certainly not new, the news of her forfeit to the saga was given in June, a bolt from the blue for fans of the slasher franchise created by Wes Craven.

Therefore, there is no Sidney Prescott for the expected sixth chapter, and the reason is a question of money. In a recent statement, the actress specified that she believes that the offer she received to star in the horror film would have been different if she had been a man.

Neve Campbell will not be returning to the franchise for Scream 6. The reason is the low salary

Already last June, Neve Campbell said that the offer she received to participate in the sixth installment of the saga “is not adequate for the value it brings to the franchise” and so she has decided to refuse it. “As a woman, I have had to work very hard in my career to establish my worth, especially regarding Scream. The offer that was presented to me to return did not equal my value, what I brought to the franchise. It was a very difficult decision to move forward. “

Later, the actress added that she doesn’t think the offer would have been that low if she had been a man: “Honestly, I don’t think if I was a guy who had done five installments on a successful franchise in 25 years, I would have been offered that number. I knew deep down that I couldn’t accept it. I couldn’t go to the set feeling like this, undervalued, and feeling the injustice (or lack of justice) of this. “

Campbell thanked the fans for their support and received the endorsement of Jasmin Savoy Brown, one of the new additions to the Scream franchise: “I respect her so much for doing it. I think it’s hard to be a woman in this industry and in any industry, really. If a person, especially a woman, feels she deserves better, whether it’s the job position, the abandonment of a relationship, or the filling of a void, I fully support it. “

The long-awaited Scream 6 will see the return of only one of the longest-running actresses in the saga: Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers (pictured here in the first photos from the set). The sequel, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will also see the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed. Its release is scheduled for March 31, 2023.
