The cast of Orphan Black: Echoes is enriched by Krysten Ritter.

AMC has announced that the sequel to the beloved Canadian series Orphan Black is coming! Along with the announcement of the green light for production, the network unveiled the title of the new series, Echoes. The sequel will hit our screens next year and fans can breathe a sigh of relief as original series co-creator John Fawcett is on board.

The first season of Echoes – consisting of ten episodes – will continue to delve into the way in which scientific experimentation affects human existence. The sequel will also follow a group of women who come together to uncover the mysteries of their identities.

First announced in 2019, Orphan Black: Echoes is moving at full speed, as AMC Networks plans to release it in 2023

This means filming could be around the corner. While this will not be a direct sequel, the series takes place in the Orphan Black universe and its recurring ethical themes will once again take center stage, a fact also underlined by the official synopsis of the series:

Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a plunge into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. A group of women follows as they insinuate themselves into each other’s lives and embark on an exciting journey, revealing the mystery of their identity and discovering a harrowing story of love and betrayal.

The first cast member to be made official is the lead, actress Krysten Ritter, known for her role as Jessica Jones in the Marvel Universe. Orphan Black ran for five seasons and enjoyed the unforgettable acting performances of Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany, who played a myriad of clones that have populated the history of all seasons of the series. Orphan Black: Echoes is created, written and produced by Anna Fishko, also the showrunner. Fishko has extensive experience in the world of TV series, having written episodes of Fragments of her, Fear the Walking Dead and Colony.
