In a recent interview, the well-known director talked about the reappearance of the love interest of the God of Thunder, who this time also wears a costume!
Thor: Love and Thunder seems to be one of the most curious and remarkable projects of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: not only because one of the most appreciated authors of the universe of the House of Ideas returns to the control room, or Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Jojo Rabbit) after his acclaimed work in Thor: Ragnarok (2017), but also because Jane Foster’s character (who has the face of Natalie Portman) unexpectedly wears a costume. This event, which also happened in the comics (in Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor run) hit fans enormously and this approach, of course, is particular for a cinecomic.
In a recent interview for Empire Magazine, Taika Waititi himself spoke about Jane Foster and the impact she has on the protagonist.
It’s been about eight years. She had another life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and now she is dressed like you. It’s a real blast for Thor. I didn’t know we were going to use the Mighty Thor character plot until we started working out the actual story. I was writing and he was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to bring Jane back into the plot?’
At the same time, you don’t want Natalie to come back and play the same character who walks around with scientific equipment. You know, as Thor flies around, she stayed on Earth, stamping her foot and saying, ‘When will she come back?’ It’s boring. You want her to be part of the adventure.
Thor: Love and Thunder is written by Waititi himself with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and executive production by Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Todd Hallowell. The cast, on the other hand, also sees the presence of Chris Hemsworth in the role of Thor, Russell Crowe who plays Zeus, Christian Bale in the role of Gorr, The Slaughterer of Gods, Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Tessa Thompson who lends the face to Valkyrie and many more. The work should arrive in cinemas on 6 July 2022.
