Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery– There was great anticipation behind the making and release of this sequel. The first film, Knives Out, which arrived to us with the title of “Cena con Delitto” was released in cinemas all over the world at the end of 2019, generating huge collections and an excellent response from critics and audiences.

When director Rian Johnson announced his intention to make other films (it was said two, but now it seems that he wants to make others as well) and therefore compose a saga, many studios clashed to be able to obtain the rights.

However, it was Netflix who won, which with a stratospheric figure has grabbed at least this second film and the third one which will be released soon. Three years later, it arrives on the big screen for a week, before arriving on December 23 on the platform, Glass Onion – Knives Out.

Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns to solve a mystery in Rian Johnson’s new thriller. This new adventure sees the intrepid detective in a luxurious property on a Greek island, but how and why he got there is only the first of many mysteries to uncover.

Blanc will soon meet a motley group of friends who have come at the invitation of billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) for their annual reunion. Guests include Miles’ former associate Andi Brand (Janelle Monáe), Connecticut Governor Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn), innovative scientist Lionel Toussaint (Leslie Odom Jr.),

fashion designer and former model Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson) with conscientious assistant Peg (Jessica Henwick), influencer Duke Cody (Dave Bautista) and faithful girlfriend Whiskey (Madelyn Cline). As in all good detective stories, each character has their own secrets and motives, and when the dead man escapes, they’re all suspects.

In this sequel only detective Benoit Blanc returns, played again by Daniel Craig, who if in the previous film was very calm and serious, albeit with a very funny and playful side, while here, also thanks to the tone of the film clearly different from the predecessor, manages to show an even crazier, charismatic and exciting side of the character.

Glass Onion (Knives Out 2) is a very different film than one might imagine, if you watch this second film thinking you are expecting a product similar to the first you will be disappointed; Johnson wanted to create something very different, primarily for the mood; there are many more laughs and many more iconic scenes with many improbable cameos,

and above all if in the other there was a lot of gloom also on a photographic level, this sequel is set in Greece in a perfect summer climate, which favors greater vividness to the colors giving a more lively tone to the product.

Visually, it feels like it’s made for a platform; many long shots are missing and the focus is mainly on the close-ups of the actors and on a formal level it is a pure Netflix film, it must be said one of the best produced by them.

In addition to a great Daniel Craig who beautifully brings the character back on stage, we find, as in the first film, a parterre of A-list actors and a series of cameos that we do not reveal to keep the secret.

Among the protagonists, Edward Norton who is making a comeback after years of small roles or films that went unnoticed (such as his second directorial Motherless Brooklyn) in a role that fits perfectly for him, to which he manages to give an important style and personality.

Dave Bautista also stands out, also with a hand-stitched part, a magnificent and hilarious Kate Hudson and Janelle Monae who explodes in this film giving a great interpretation. Among others to mention Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline, all among the protagonists even if with slightly less present roles than the others.

Rian Johnson, while failing to match his predecessor in beauty and elegance, creates one of the most interesting pop works of the year, which with a duration of 2 hours and 20 manages to entertain and never distract the viewer’s attention.

We can only wholeheartedly recommend the vision of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, because it is a film made to relax and have fun without necessarily having to turn off the brain. Films of this type will always be welcome and we trust that the great Rian Johnson will be able to carry on this saga in the best way by differentiating it from film to film.
