As has been known for months, the main villain of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 blockbuster film, will be the mighty Namor. The character, played by actor Tenoch Huerta has been described as a mutant, lord of the deep ocean, where he built his own extraordinary empire.
There was a lot of anticipation for the debut of this character, who finally got his own space within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many, however, could not help but wonder why he was only introduced now, at the end of Phase 4.
During the premiere of the film, producer and head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige provided an answer to that question. Feige has in fact declared that the character had been crushed in a war on rights between the Studios and that when a film entirely dedicated to him was hypothesized at the end of the nineties, this was not realized precisely because of the contrasts between Marvel Studios and Universal, which at the time held part of the rights to Namor.
Recalling the episode, Feige said that “we even commissioned a screenplay at the time, but the timing was never quite as good as the proposal in general.” If now Namor has finally arrived on the big screen, much of the credit seems to be attributed to director Ryan Coogler, who would have strongly wanted him as the villain of this sequel.
“Ryan Coogler in the first film begins to outline what will be a war between the realms. – Explained Feige – This added a greater cultural specificity to the character by tying him to the kingdom of Talocan and I can’t wait for people to meet this version of him. ” For the director, therefore, it was the perfect villain for this sequel, and to be able to admire Namor in all his splendor, it will be necessary to wait for the film to arrive in theaters, set for November 9th.
